Evacuation Maps
Evacuation Maps are located in every classroom and every building on the ASU Mid-South Campus. Highlighted in blue on every evacuation map is the safe area for that particular building or area. The maps show evacuation routes (leaving buildings and where to go in case of fire, etc.) and shelter locations for tornadoes.

Media Relations
The Chancellor or Vice Chancellor of Marketing and public relations will serve as the only spokesperson’s.
COMMAND HIERARCHY:
Chancellor, Vice Chancellor’s: Once emergency personnel arrive, they are in charge! Be available to give pertinent information.
Accident or Injury
Call 911, in life threatening situations only and relay exact location and type of emergency. Then call Campus Security (7911) with the same information.
Stay with and comfort any person needing medical assistance and be available for recording of the information for the accident report. Security will be responsible for the completion of the appropriate accident report.
If it is a work related injury, the employee must contact ASU Mid-South Human Resources within 24 hours and complete the necessary paperwork.
Tornadoes
The county-wide tornado siren will sound. Direct students and staff into hallways and away from glass windows and doors, per the evacuation map posted in the classroom or office area.
Do not attempt to evacuate building and discourage others from doing so.
Bomb Threat
Do not use cell phones or two-way radios and inform others not to use the same devices due to potential of triggering device.
If received by phone call, write down the phone number using caller I.D., what the caller says, and any notes about background noise or clues to caller’s location
Keep the caller on the phone as long as possible and have someone else call 911, from a landline, giving the number of the phone line receiving the threat, then call Security (7911). Security will contact the appropriate responding agency.
Evacuation procedures will be determined by Emergency Personnel.
Power Outages
Contact Facilities (6750) or Security (7911). Facilities will contact the provider, assess situation, and determine the expected duration.
Keep students in classroom and buildings until situation is assessed.
Explosive Device
Do not use cell phones or two-way radios and inform others not to use the same devices due to potential of triggering the device.
Report any suspicious package to Security (7911). Security will contact Emergency Personnel.
Evacuation procedures will be determined by Emergency Personnel.
Intruder with weapon or showing harmful intent
Call 911, giving exact location and description of intruder.
Call Security (7911), giving exact location and description of intruder. They will contact Emergency Personnel, to ensure they received the first call.
Security will page entire campus and give live message “an emergency situation has developed on campus; please initiate lockdown/evacuation procedures.”
Lockdown procedures for classrooms and offices: lock door, block door with chairs, desks, etc., direct people away from entry door and instruct them to get on the floor, turn off lights.
Do not engage the intruder either physically or verbally. Direct everyone away from the area. If shooting occurs, take cover and encourage others to do so.
No one should leave locked offices or classrooms until visible police, security or facilities personnel give an all clear or an all clear is announced on the intercom system.
Chemical/Toxic
Assess general threat and/or condition of victim, then call 911 and Security (7911)
Security will contact Facilities Management.
Security will assess evacuating building.
Meet emergency personnel and relay pertinent information about the incident.
Fire
Activate fire alarm pull station and evacuate building based on posted evacuation plans.
Ensure that any physically disabled person is given assistance in evacuating building.
If you hear the alarm while in a room, feel the door before you open it. If the door is hot, leave it closed. Break a window with a chair and evacuate if possible.
