Building Bridges – Creating Change

This year’s theme centers on tackling today’s pressing issues while embracing opportunities to inspire meaningful change. Guided by the principles of Educate, Engage, and Empower, we aim to spark action that transforms both education and society.

Facilitator: Deeneaus Polk

Dee Polk Deeneaus “D” Polk, a 2020 Harvard Kennedy School graduate with a Master’s in Public Policy, previously led the Mississippi Apprenticeship Program (MAP), expanding apprenticeship opportunities in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Labor and Mississippi Community College Board. MAP has created over 1,000 apprenticeships and partnered with 100+ companies since 2017. His work was influenced by research as a German Chancellor Fellow on vocational education. D also served as a Policy Analyst at the Mississippi Economic Policy Center, focusing on education and workforce development.

As a Cheng Fellow, he created 3LEVATE, a talent development initiative promoting a more diverse and equitable workforce by addressing the skills gap and supporting educational pathways for people of color and women. A proud Gulf Coast native, D is committed to uplifting his hometown, Pascagoula, and advancing opportunities for its hardworking community.
