WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. – The ASU Mid-South Greyhounds baseball team has been awarded the 2024-25 ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award by the American Baseball Coaches Association, a national recognition given to teams that maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for the academic year.
ASU Mid-South is the only program in NJCAA Region 2 and the only college in the Arkansas State University System to earn the distinction this year, placing the Greyhounds in elite academic company among more than 440 college baseball programs recognized nationwide.
“This award reflects the discipline, accountability and commitment our student-athletes show every single day,” said Head Coach Jason Middleton. “Our guys have embraced the challenge of being excellent students and athletes, and I couldn’t be prouder of what they’ve achieved.”
The award, presented in partnership with Sports Attack, honors academic achievement across all levels of collegiate and high school baseball. Programs must meet strict criteria, including a minimum 3.0 team GPA and ABCA membership by the head coach.
ASU Mid-South Athletic Director Jeremy Reece said the recognition showcases the true purpose of the college’s athletics program.
“Our real job is to help these student-athletes prepare for what comes next, and this award is a powerful reminder that success isn’t just measured on the field, but in life,” Reece said. “Coach Middleton has developed a culture where players are expected to succeed in the classroom as well as on the field, and they’ve risen to that challenge.”
The Greyhounds continue to raise the bar both academically and athletically, earning national attention for their performance in the classroom while preparing for another competitive season on the field.
