Purpose
The Associate Vice Chancellor for Finance will have responsibility for the financial affairs and functions of ASU Mid-South and will serve as an integral member of its senior management team. As appropriate, he/she will participate in various college advisory and decision-making groups as instructed by the Vice Chancellor and/or Chancellor of the institution. This position reports to the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Associate Vice Chancellor for Finance directs the activities of the institution’s finance and grant accounting department, including, but not limited to, student accounts, purchasing and accounts payable. This position is responsible for interviewing applicants, hiring, assigning and reviewing work, training, and evaluating the performance of office personnel and will also assist with management of auxiliary services as requested. This manager’s responsibility includes the oversight of the preparation of financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and the ability to provide additional accurate analytical, financial, and accounting information that will allow the Chancellor, the VC, and other members of the administration to make informed decisions and select appropriate courses of action. This position ensures that all reporting to both internal and external affiliates is accurate and submitted in a timely manner.
Education and Experience
Desirable candidates will have a minimum of five years of experience in increasingly responsible related positions and a minimum of two years of managerial-level experience in finance, preferably in higher education, government, or the non-profit sector. A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required. A CPA or Master’s degree is strongly preferred.
Competencies/Knowledge/Skills & Abilities
- Must have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft applications including word-processing, spreadsheets, and email – along with excellent oral and written communications skills.
- Must be able to work effectively with students, faculty and staff, and have a demonstrated ability to collect, organize, and analyze data.
- Attention to detail and ability to multi-task is imperative.
